Installing VirtualBox guest additions in openSUSE

I succeded to install the VirtualBox guest Additions with Linux Operating System Ubuntu without any problems. The outcome was as follows:

- Excellent features like “seamless mouse integration”

- Shared folder access between the host Operating System Windows Xp and guest Operating System Linux Ubuntu.

When I tried a similar installation with Linux openSUSE, i couldn’t run the VitualBox Guest Additions from the terminal.

Then when I searched the web, I found a link which was quite useful i must admit.

It was suggested to use the command underneath and as such, I executed this command in the openSUSE terminal (CLI - Command Line Interface) :

sudo zypper install gcc make automake autoconf kernel-source

It asked for my “root” password, and when i typed in my password, it downloaded the necessary packages.

It took a while to download and install the necessary packages on my machine.

Then I ran the command:

sudo sh VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

after navigating to the appropriate “media” directory.

I was then notified to restart the Guest Operation System and after a restart, I was able to use all the features in a similar manner to Linux Ubuntu as a guest.

I also noticed that my openSUSE resolution automatically increased from 800x600 to 1024×768 after installing the VirtualBox guest additions.

Hope this helps.

Highlighted Desktop Icon Titles ( Windows Operation Systems )

Desktop icons labels may not display background transparency because of one reason or the other. Below are possible work arounds for this problem:

-
Go to Start -> My Computer -> Properties and under 'System Properties' -> 'Advanced' tab -> Performance 'Settings' -> Visual Effects' tab:

Check the following "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop"

- Right-click on Desktop -> 'Arrange Icons by' -> "Lock Web items..." must
be CLEARED

- In case you have any web content on your desktop, transparency won't work. To check if this is the case, please follow the path below:

-Right click on the desktop -> Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button > Web tab > make sure all checkboxes are clear.

4) Wallpaper must be an image file, not html.

You've Got Mail...!!!

Hi pips this is one hilarious story to make you laugh........!!!!

Based on a true story.

Back in the days during my stay in Germany, i decided to call in sick at work after a very busy and exciting weekend. Was home while others where being productive at their offices on a Monday morning. I then decided to sit at my balcony as was summer and the temperatures where really high.

While on my balcony enjoying the good climatic condition, i observed some thing very strange.

My neighbor who was newly married to his lovely blond beloved wife went to work that morning leaving her alone at home.

Sitting on my balcony and reminiscing the good weather with a cold glass of fresh drink, i realized that my friend's wife came out of the house rushing to the post box.

It did not bother me until when she came out the fifth time, i then decided to ask why she kept coming to the mail box and she said the computer in the lounge keeps saying "you've got mail" ....... AOL..... i could not behave myself and had to Laugh Out Loud....LOL.

Hope you enjoyed the joke.

Cheers.

Portable Applications on USB

Hi pips, it has always been a question on how one can take along his favorite computer programs where ever they go. Be it on long or short vacations, you always have your applications and settings without any new modifications. All you need is to connect your memory stick to any machine running Windows operating system. You can now carry your favorite computer programs along with all of your bookmarks, settings, email and more with you.

Use them on any Windows computer. All without leaving any personal data behind.

This has been made possible by a USB portable application http://portableapps.com.

All you need is a memory stick with enough memory to download the application from the link above. To be honest i am presently using this technology and all i can say is Thumps Up. I no longer have worries about any unfinished work as i can always take my office ( Portable Apps) with me and connect to any Windows machine at any time and continue my work with no change of configuration.

Check it out pips.

Cheers.
